Borrowed the city’s new lift today to put up the lights today. Can’t wait to show you guys all the cool custom stuff I’m making for Blackboard Mercantile’s new store! Isn’t Anna’s window mural killer?
Big Green is getting closer to being ready for Blackboard Mercantile to move in! I made this 11 foot check out counter out of four countertops I found in the basement and a bunch of salvaged shiplap. Also I got to bring a bit of my teenage years spent in the Czech Republic to Hillsboro with these sick industrial lights I was able to score online…
Taking the cover off just in time for American Made Day! This summer Jenna and Alex Holtschulte are opening “Blackboard Mercantile” in this newly renovated storefront. If you’ve seen Jenna’s work, you’ll know how good this spot is going to be!

Getting serious on the second side of Big Green!
Six years after moving downtown I finally finished our entry closet. Otto had the awesome idea of making holes in the doors so he could hide in the closet and scare people when they come in. I thought it was so funny I had to do it! The left door holes line up with Otto’s eye’s when he’s standing inside the closet and the middle door lines up with Judah’s eye’s… Look out visitors!
Small Town Cool. 
Hey! Read the article about you guys in the Greenville Record. My husband, Matt, and I are so impressed with what you are doing in Hillsboro and your mission to embrace and built up the small town you are in! We are Greenville alumni – circa 1994 – and remember going to movies in Hillsboro and I drove through there on my way to and from school – living in Northern IL. I hope maybe be can swing through town sometime in the not too distant future and see what you all are doing – after first stopping at Mario’s for pizza, of course.
We have lived in Nashville since 1995. Sorry we missed meeting you when you were residents on the East side. Anyway – just wanted to send a word of encouragement! We hope you all are finding fulfillment in your endeavors and that your efforts in Hillsboro are a great success!

Hey Karin! Sorry I somehow missed your comment until now! I remember your husbands name from being in the music program at Greenville. OG’s! Thanks for the encouragement. It’s been fun to find a way to be creative after moving away from music. We’ve definitely found that there are ways to create that are just as fulfilling (even though I’d love to have more songs fall in my lap again someday) and gratifying.
